BUSY BEE DAY CAMP - SUMMER 2021 (AT GR SCHOOLS)

busy bee summer camp

Traditional day camp for grades Kindergarten through Third grade. Campers have a half day of activities. The schedule rotates each day. Campers will enjoy a variety of sports, art, science and outdoor activities. Since camp will be half day this year, swimming is not included. Hours 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Campers will eat lunch at camp.

ART CAMP (AT GR SCHOOLS)

Miss Britt will be returning to Art Camp this year. Art Camp will be held outside at one of the schools. Camp will move inside if there is rain. A variety of art projects with will excite campers. From color theory to crafts, art history to creative exploration, this camp has been a popular choice for campers. *supplies included

KINDERGARTEN READINESS CAMP (AT GR SCHOOLS)
K ready camp

Students who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall will benefit from this new camp built around kindergarten readiness. One of the community school's Pre-K teacher will be leading this camp. This camp will provide students with learning opportunities that go beyond the Pre-K curriculum. This camp will promote social, emotional and academic growth for students before they enter elementary school this fall. Students will take part in hands-on math activities, literature-based art activities, emergent literacy lessons, science experiments and more. There will be ample time and opportunities for socialization with peers.

VETERINARIANS IN TRAINING CAMP (2 Unique Camps)

VETERINARY MEDICINE - LEARN TO BE A VET
Veterinarians in Training Camp.  Join us for the week to explore the world of veterinary medicine and all things animal!  Each day will be a fun and exciting topic.  Some examples are performing veterinary wellness exams, learning pet first aid techniques, endangered and exotic animals, and grooming. The best part is that we will always be joined by our VIT animals. You will spend the week learning what it takes to be a vet and care for a variety of animals through hands-on practice.

COOKING AND BAKING CAMPS

Baking Camp - 

Session 1: Every baker needs to start at the beginning and learn the basics.  This camp will build a foundation for the rest of your baking going forward.  Nothing can be more classic  than baking cookies.  Day one, you will learn how to make the perfect chocolate chip cookie and begin the process of baking shortbread cookies.  Perfect for decorating.  Day two,  we will bake quick breads.  Muffins are great for breakfast or a quick snack.  They are perfect examples of how breads can rise without yeast.  We will whip together some  banana bread and chocolate chip muffin bites.  Plus, we will bake the vanilla shortbread cookies.   Day three, we will spend learning piping skills as we decorate our shortbread cookies.  In addition we will be making crepes. The week will  end with a focus on yeasted doughs by creating our own homemade pizzas. We will have a variety of toppings, sauces, and cheeses available to create a Pizza Bar.
Session 2: This week of baking camp, every day is a holiday! Starting off with Fruit-day we’ve got fantastic strawberry shortcakes and thumbprint cookies. Tuesday is Cupcake Day. Our budding bakers will learn how to make cupcakes, icing, and decorate their own cupcakes. Wednesday is our Breakfast Day where we will make waffles and easy monkey bread. Thursday is a fan favorite: chocolate day. We will be making cookies and brownies with a twist. Lastly, we will celebrate our hard work with a cookout day on Friday with our own pizzas and homemade apple pie.

Cooking Camp - Our cooking camp is bursting with flavor and our kitchen is full of action!  This half day session introduces campers to  international cuisine.  Each day, campers focus on exploring cultures and food from around the world showcasing interesting cultural tidbits about the country.  In addition, we may read a folktale, play an international game, observe a cooking demonstration, create recipe illustrations, or learn to think critically about the foods we just cooked.  All recipes will be provided so campers can recreate their cooking adventures in their own home.

Arty fun this summer! Our imaginary art world features campfires with marshmallows, collecting “bugs in a jar” making art from nature, painting wild animals and so much more! You will explore painting, printing, collage, and other cool art media. All materials provided.

Under the Sea Art Camp. Make a big splash and join us for adventures in our Under the Sea Art Camp.  Campers will learn all about ocean life under the sea while creating octopuses, dolphins, whales and more!   All art materials included. Golf Camp: Come Tee it up with TGA at Golf Camp.  TGA provides an opportunity for your child to learn the lifelong sport of golf in a safe and fun environment.  Campers will develop basic golf skills as they learn all aspects of the game including: stance, swing, putting, rules, scoring, etiquette, sportsmanship and more.  Daily contests and games with prizes.

Soccer Camp: 
3 hours of soccer filled fun each day in a safe and controlled environment. With the low ratio of no more than 10:1, coaches work with campers to build skills and create a team atmosphere. The daily routine includes warm up activities, soccer skill building, games w/ progression, and coach’s challenges.

Baseball Camp:
Under the direction of Coach McGrath.
Grades 3 - 5: Campers will focus on the basics of baseball in a fun, upbeat setting.  Proper throwing mechanics, fielding, hitting and base-running techniques will be taught.  Campers will also be presented with the opportunity to learn these fundamentals of the game from the Glen Rock High School coaching staff, current and former players.

Grades 6 - 8: Campers will focus on the basics of baseball as well, however, there will be more of an emphasis on position specific training techniques, the importance of being an unselfish team player and what to expect as they move closer to high school baseball.  Campers will also be presented with the opportunity to learn these skills of the game from the Glen Rock High School coaching staff, current and former players.

Boys Lacrosse Camp:
 
We’re facing off at TGA’s Lacrosse Camp! Our curriculum combines LAX instruction, academic lessons, and life skills to create a fun and nurturing environment. Students develop cradling, passing, catching, and defending skills through station-based activities and games while coaches enforce a no-contact policy to ensure all players’ safety. Come play with TGA!

Girl's Summer Lacrosse: The Glen Rock Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Clinics will be run by head coach Kyle McCourt, along with other Glen Rock High School players and coaches affiliated with the program. Players will learn and practice the fundamentals/tactics of girls’ lacrosse.  Numerous skills and strategies of the sport will be learned based on the appropriate age groups, as well as fun activities for enjoyment/team building.  The clinics will be available for girls going into grades 2-5 and grades 6-9.  Players should come equipped with their own girls’ lacrosse stick, goggles, mouthpiece and water/sports drink.

Rock Track and Field Camp: The camp is directed by head track coach Stacie Gallo. This program incorporates age appropriate activities including warm ups/ cool downs, yoga and stretching, training for races, relay events, and field events including throwing, jumping and hurdling led by high school coaches and athletes that will use their experience and knowledge to educate campers. Campers must bring sneakers, water, sunblock, and a snack.

Football Camp: The camp is run under the direction of GRHS head football coach Jim Kurz, who is also assisted by other high school football coaches and current GRHS football players. The camp is designed for both experienced and inexperienced players and it will teach each player the fundamentals and techniques of the game. Campers will receive on-field instruction and practice specific skills and drills that will help them succeed at their positions. This program is “non-contact” without pads.

Rock Softball Camp:

oach Kelly Dowell along with GRHS softball coaches and varsity softball players, brings many years of teaching skill development and fundamentals. The camp includes Video Analysis, the ultimate technique in performance feedback for hitting and fielding. Campers should come prepared to play hard, learn a lot and have fun! Equipment needed includes: sneakers or cleats, mitt, batting gloves and bat (optional), batting helmet, lunch, water bottle and sunblock.

Rock Sports Camp:
 ONE WEEK ONLY.
Under the direction of Jim Kurz, head football coach for Glen Rock High School and veteran camp director, Rock Sports Camp introduces young players to a variety of sports including football, soccer, basketball, hockey, volleyball and lacrosse. Games include dodgeball, kickball, Steal-the-Bacon, Soldiers and Medics, Dungeon, and more. The staff is made up of primarily experienced physical education teachers, coaches and current and former Glen Rock star athletes. The camp provides a balance of cooperative activities and individual skill development. Campers enjoy a caring, supportive and fun environment where each child receives recognition for his/her contributions.

The camp is led by the direction of Glen Rock certified teacher, Heather McDermott. Curriculum is grade specific, so returning campers will have a brand new experience! Join us for an action packed morning of STEM exploration through hands on investigations, challenges, problem solving and collaborative learning.  Put on your thinking cap and get ready for your next challenge!  Campers will not have lunch at STEM camp. Please bring a snack. Weather permitting, camp will be held outdoors as much as possible. Engineering/Coding Camp available in the afternoon.

ENGINEERING/CODING CAMP

The camp is led by the direction of Glen Rock certified teacher, Heather McDermott. This class will focus on beginning and intermediate programing using Scratch and Code.org.  Innovation, invention and creativity skills will be fostered via building sessions and design challenges. The first 15 minutes of camp will be for lunch.

WOODWORKING CAMP

New to camp this year is Woodworking Camp. Come join us this summer and have fun learning the basics of woodworking. Every day campers will start off by learning woodworking safety. They will also learn about the tools that are used and how the projects of the day are put together.  Campers will be doing light sanding with sandpaper, gluing and painting to make fun and exciting projects to bring home each day. Some projects will include a birdhouse, wooden games, animal figures, and much more. Campers may bring a snack and a drink.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SKILLS

Middle School Success: The transition from elementary to middle school can be a daunting one. As September approaches, some students may feel the need for a refresher in a small group setting. This course offers a review of topics including: binder management, helpful homework tips and time management - reinforcing great strategies that will last a lifetime and intended for students entering Grade 6. The instructor is Anthony Cece, GRMS teacher since 2001 with significant experience in learning strategies and study skills.

Study Skills Essentials: 
Successful middle school students require a strong foundation in executive functioning skills.  Study Skills Essentials provides students with the necessary tools that are imperative for success in middle school and beyond. Topics include organizational skills, time management, test taking skills, following directions and long-term planning.  In addition to acquiring these essential skills, students will learn valuable tips to maintain them throughout their educational careers. The instructor is Anthony Cece, a GRMS teacher since 2001 with significant experience in learning strategies and study skills.

MUSIC LESSONS

Summer is a great time to improve at your instrument or learn how to play something new. Private music lessons offer comprehensive one-on-one music instruction in beginner to intermediate woodwinds, brass, strings, piano, percussion and guitar.
