DAY CAMP

JR ROCK ADVENTURE CAMP -NEW!

Junior Rock Adventure camp is for children entering grades K-1 in September.  Junior Rock Adventure is a camp that provides an all-inclusive high quality day camp experience in the convenience of a local Glen Rock setting with an emphasis on fun.  Designed for children entering grades K-1, the daily “routine” is anything but.  

Included in camp fee:

  • SuperDome in Fair Lawn 3 days per week. Activities include flag football, kickball, obstacle courses, bounce house, scooter racing, arts and crafts and more! 
  • Hot buffet style lunch included at the SuperDome. Some of the choices are chicken tenders, pizza and mac and cheese, etc. The menu may vary from week to week.
  • The campers will spend 2 days a week at the Glen Rock pool, weather permitting. Lunch is not provided, campers may bring their own nut free lunch or money for the snack stand.

Camp runs 9:00am-4:00pm daily. We offer 6, one-week sessions.  July 3 –August 11.  Nut free camp. (Please note: there may be nut options offered at the pool snack stand).

Early bird registration through March 17th $10.00 discount.  NO refunds or partial refunds after June 5.

PLAYCAMP

Campers will participate in thematic activities each week including daily read alouds, crafts, playground time, water play, and sing-along songs. They will love the familiar daily routine including choices of inside and outside play.  Play Camp leadership is a certified teacher in Elementary Education assisted by experienced counselors.  Play camp is for ages 3 and 4 years old (child must be 3 years old by Oct 1, 2022). Children must be toilet trained.  Play Camp will be held in Central School.  Time: 9 - 12:00, Cost: $295.00 per week except July 4th week is $240.00.  Early Bird registration before March 17th $10.00 discount.

KINDERGARTEN READINESS CAMPK ready camp

Students who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall will benefit from this new camp built around kindergarten readiness. One of the community school's Pre-K teachers will be leading this camp. This camp will provide students with learning opportunities that go beyond the Pre-K curriculum. This camp will promote social, emotional and academic growth for students before they enter elementary school this fall. Students will take part in hands-on math activities, literature-based art activities, emergent literacy lessons, science experiments and more. There will be ample time and opportunities for socialization with peers.  Each session will be different.

COOKING CAMP

COOL TOOLS FOR THE KITCHEN
In this fun-filled cooking camp, the kids will learn about kitchen tools and how to use them properly. They will be using tools such as a garlic press, cheese grater, manual juicer, lemon zester, mallet, etc. The campers will make a variety of fun foods and drinks with these tools to either bring home to cook up or enjoy as a no-bake snack in camp. This is a peanut and tree nut free camp.

FOODS AROUND THE WORLD
Chef It Up takes the kids on a culinary adventure and picks 1 country of the day then prepares fun foods and drinks from the region. The kids will prepare the food in the camp and will be sent home with baking instructions to simply have a parent cook it up! We will end the week with cupcake decorating! Peanut and tree nut free camp. Monday -Friday. 9:00-11:30. Grades K-2. Monday-Friday, NO CLASS ON TUESDAY JULY 4.

THE GREAT CLAY ADVENTURE - CANCELLED
Students will create functional and artistic hand building projects using air-dry clay and acrylic paints. Some examples are: a Pueblo coil pot, animal pinch pots, clay wall pockets, jewelry. Students will expand their imaginations and artistic minds by exploring the exciting world of clay as an art form.  This class is taught by Kim Menke who teaches art at Hamilton School.  Supplies are included.

SUMMER ART SAMPLER
Join us for a fun week of creating and experimenting with various art techniques and materials. From old-school summer camp projects like stick weaving, nature journaling, and tie-dye to messy outdoor action art and summer-themed 2D and 3D art, this is a chance to have fun, learn, and create in a playful, supportive environment. Campers will complete several art pieces in different media to take home over the course of the week. This program is designed and led by Byrd/Central Art Teacher Ellie Tahan. Supplies are included.

Golf Camp: Come Tee it up with TGA at Golf Camp.  TGA provides an opportunity for your child to learn the lifelong sport of golf in a safe and fun environment.  Campers will develop basic golf skills as they learn all aspects of the game including: stance, swing, putting, rules, scoring, etiquette, sportsmanship and more.  Daily contests and games with prizes. Campers should bring a snack and a drink.

Junior Lacrosse Camp:
 
We're facing off at TGA's Lacrosse Camp!  Our curriculum combines LAX instruction, academic lessons and life skills to create a fun and nurturing environment.  Students develop cradling, passing, catching and defending skills through station-based activities and games while coaches enforce a no-contact policy to ensure all plates' safety.  Come play with TGA!

Baseball Camp:
Under the direction of Coach Steve Spitaleri, campers will focus on the basics of baseball as well, however, for the older kids, there will be more of an emphasis on position specific training techniques and the importance of being an unselfish team player. Campers will also be presented with the opportunity to learn these skills of the game from the Glen Rock High School coaching staff, current and former players.   Campers are expected to wear a baseball hat and their cleats everyday.  Campers should also bring their glove, bat, helmet, sunscreen, water or Gatorade, sneakers and anything else they may need to participate. Please also pack a nut free lunch and snack. Campers will receive a T-shirt!

Glen Rock Basketball Academy: Glen Rock Basketball Academy Summer Basketball Camp for boys entering grades 4 thru 9 in September 2023. The camp is run by the GRHS Boys Basketball coaching staff. Player development through skill work and competitive games along with having a great time playing basketball is the top priority. Campers will have to bring their own lunch and water for the day.

Coed Lacrosse Camp: The Glen Rock HS Boys' and Girls' Lacrosse programs are happy to offer coed clinics this year for our future Panthers! These clinics are for any skill level as our goal is to provide proper instruction that will be age appropriate. The clinics will also be instructed based on if they play either the boys' or girls' game. Campers will be coached by our high school coaches, current/former high school players and possibly some others. Goalies are also welcome as we will have proper instruction for them! Fun culminating activities will also be provided as well during each clinic day. Every camper needs to be properly equipped based on their game.  Camp will run on Thursdays 6/15, 6/29, 7/6 & 7/13 from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Boys will need a helmet, shoulder pads, gloves and mouthpiece. Rock Track and Field Camp: The camp is directed by Stacie Gallo. This program incorporates age appropriate activities including warm ups/ cool downs, yoga and stretching, training for races, relay events, and field events including throwing, jumping and hurdling led by high school coaches and athletes that will use their experience and knowledge to educate campers. Campers must bring sneakers, water, sunblock, and a snack. Call GRCS office for sibling discount. Register by June 30th for a guaranteed T-shirt. Rain date is Friday July 21.

Glen Rock Football Camp: The camp is run under the direction of GRHS head football coach Jim Kurz, who is also assisted by other high school football coaches and current GRHS football players. The camp is designed for both experienced and inexperienced players and it will teach each player the fundamentals and techniques of the game. Campers will receive on-field instruction and practice specific skills and drills that will help them succeed at their positions. This program is “non-contact” without pads.

Rock Softball Camp:
Coach Kelly Dowell along with GRHS softball coaches and varsity softball players, brings many years of teaching skill development and fundamentals. The camp includes Video Analysis, the ultimate technique in performance feedback for hitting and fielding. Campers should come prepared to play hard, learn a lot and have fun! Equipment needed includes: sneakers or cleats, mitt, batting gloves and bat (optional), batting helmet, lunch, water bottle and sunblock.

Rock Sports Camp
Under the direction of Jim Kurz, head football coach for Glen Rock High School and veteran camp director, Rock Sports Camp introduces young players to a variety of sports including football, soccer, basketball, hockey, volleyball and lacrosse. Games include dodgeball, kickball, Steal-the-Bacon, Soldiers and Medics, Dungeon, and more. The staff is made up of primarily experienced physical education teachers, coaches and current and former Glen Rock star athletes. The camp provides a balance of cooperative activities and individual skill development. Campers enjoy a caring, supportive and fun environment where each child receives recognition for his/her contributions.

Rock Tennis Clinic: 
Join Varsity Tennis coach Bonnie Zimmermann and some talented players to learn and practice your tennis skills.  All levels are welcome to practice strokes and play games that will be fun and challenging.  Campers should wear sneakers and comfortable clothing and bring a refillable water bottle and snacks.  Tennis is a fun lifetime sports so let’s get started.

Stretch and Strengthening for Athletes: In this week long course, young athletes will learn functional movement techniques to help increase their range of motion, increase their flexibility and develop strength. Participants will learn tools to help them understand their body and the areas they need to work on specifically. By balancing strength and flexibility, work capacity increases and chances of injuries decrease. Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga or exercise mat and a water bottle.

Yoga Camp: Campers will participate in a yoga class that will incorporate breathing techniques, yoga postures, partner yoga, games and meditation. Each day will focus on a different theme such as courage, peace and confidence. The day will end with an art project or journaling activity that reflects the theme of the day. This unique program encourages creativity and helps each child gain confidence in a fun and nurturing environment. Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat, nut free snack and a water bottle.

Hip Hop Dance Camp: Dancers will learn the coolest moves and grooves in this super fun Hip Hop dance camp. Wiggles & Giggles, Dance & Tumble: In these fun and exciting classes, students will work on movement combinations that will challenge their minds and bodies and will explore a wide variety of skills including dance, gymnastics, balance beam, rhythmic play, creative expression, and the toys and props! Instructors will work with the students to enhance their strength, flexibility, coordination, muscle control and self-expression through dance, gymnastics, music and rhythm. This program is designed with the children in mind and places as much emphasis on bolstering confidence and self-esteem as it does on improving gross motor skills. Daily themes like Circus Fun, A day at Zoo, etc.

SEWING CAMP

Sewing camp will have campers learning to sew and for those who know how to sew, they will be expanding their craft. Vivian Burns teaches classes in Glen Rock and surrounding communities. Campers will learn how to use a real sewing machine and create fabulous and fun projects starting with patch pillows, tote bags, etc. and over the course of just one week develop skills to create simple dresses, etc.. This camp will give campers the confidence to sew on a real sewing machine as well as understand and perform basic construction techniques. Machines and fabric are provided.

STEM CAMP

The camp is led by the direction of Glen Rock certified teacher, Heather McDermott and certified teachers. Join us for an action packed morning of STEM exploration through hands on investigations, coding, challenges, problem solving and collaborative learning.  Put on your thinking cap and get ready for your next challenge! The field trip (grades 3-6 only) is a unique opportunity for students to collect their own Cretaceous-era fossils using a screened tray and trowel. Poricy Brook Fossil Beds provides marine fossils 65-72 million years old. Campers will get a little wet and get to take home something as old as the dinosaurs! Please bring a nut free lunch.

MATH ENRICHMENT CAMP

This course introduces students to middle school math (Pre-Algebra) and helps to provide a smooth transition. This is a good way to get a math "tune-up" for September’s challenges! Topics include word problems, ratios, decimal arithmetic, scale drawings measuring circles, angles, triangles and prisms, these are just some of the topics that will be covered. All sessions taught in small group classes by Kaitlyn Schamber who teaches Math in the middle school.

AUTHOR WRITING CAMP

Students will be inspired by their favorite authors and illustrators and work collaboratively with their classmates to develop their own independent writing projects. They will have a choice of a variety of genres and have the opportunity to take their work through the writing process. The week will end by celebrating their progress and sharing their writing and illustrations. Led by Rebecca Johnson, teacher in Glen Rock, certified in Elementary Education.

WOODWORKING CAMPwoodwork camp

Come join us this summer and have fun learning the basics of woodworking. Every day campers will start off by learning woodworking safety. They will also learn about the tools that are used and how the projects of the day are put together.  Campers will be doing light sanding with sandpaper, gluing and painting to make fun and exciting projects to bring home each day. Some projects will include a birdhouse, wooden games, animal figures, and much more. Campers may bring a snack and a drink.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SKILLS

Middle School Success: The transition from elementary to middle school can be a daunting one. As September approaches, some students may feel the need for a refresher in a small group setting. This course offers a review of topics including: binder management, helpful homework tips and time management - reinforcing great strategies that will last a lifetime and intended for students entering Grade 6. The instructor is Anthony Cece, GRMS teacher since 2001 with significant experience in learning strategies and study skills.

Study Skills Essentials: 
Successful middle school students require a strong foundation in executive functioning skills.  Study Skills Essentials provides students with the necessary tools that are imperative for success in middle school and beyond. Topics include organizational skills, time management, test taking skills, following directions and long-term planning.  In addition to acquiring these essential skills, students will learn valuable tips to maintain them throughout their educational careers. The instructor is Anthony Cece, a GRMS teacher since 2001 with significant experience in learning strategies and study skills.
