FITNESS & WELLNESS
Yoga for Osteoporosis & Osteopenia-Beginners
This class will teach you a specific 12 minute yoga sequence that has been shown in peer-reviewed studies to significantly increase bone mineral density in people with osteoporosis. The bone density gains are comparable to what you can expect from the best osteoporosis medications, with none of the problematic side effects. Gernot Huber is a certified teacher of this method, which was developed by Dr. Loren Fishman, a medical doctor and yoga teacher. Gernot also works with Dr. Fishman in his Manhattan practice as a yoga therapist and teaches this method to osteoporosis patients there. In addition to learning Dr. Fishman’s osteoporosis sequence, in this class you will also learn to improve your posture and your balance, strength, and stability to help prevent falls. Lastly, you will learn better biomechanics for daily activities to help prevent vertebral fractures, a common and serious side-effect of osteoporosis. This class is designed to be accessible to anyone who can get down to the floor with the help of a wall or a chair. The only other prerequisites are the desire to improve your bone density and the willingness to practice a 12 minute sequence daily.

Yoga for Osteoporosis & Osteopenia-Intermediate
This class is limited to people who have taken Gernot Huber’s Yoga for Osteoporosis Introductory class, and people who have taken a yoga vs. osteoporosis workshop with Dr. Loren Fishman. If you have done neither, even if you have a strong yoga background, enroll in the Yoga for Osteoporosis and Osteopenia Beginners class instead. In this class we will practice the 12 pose yoga sequence that has been shown in peer-reviewed studies to significantly increase bone mineral density in people with osteoporosis. We will refine alignment and engagement in the 12 poses, and will also work on posture, balance, strength, and stability to help prevent falls. Lastly, you will learn better biomechanics for daily activities to help prevent vertebral fractures, a common and serious side-effect of osteoporosis.

Philanthropic Intentions: The Best Way to Donate
While a potential tax write off is nice on your donations, what if you can get a further benefit? In most cases donating ‘cash’ is not the most effective way to optimize your tax situation with your portfolio in mind. Learn strategies for the best way to donate. Disclaimer: I will never tell anyone how much they should donate or to which charity. But I will let you know the best way to donate. I will go over QCDs, donating highly appreciated securities and a donor advised fund DAF. I believe the charity should be the primary beneficiary (of course that is why to donate). But it would be nice for the donor to also benefit and there are effective ways to donate and achieve this goal.
