LAST DAY FOR FULL REFUND IS MAY 15, 2019.   Glen Rock Community School Summer Camps are back for Summer 2019 with more offerings than ever before! GRCS offers a variety of options for elementary and middle school campers from half day to full day. Busy Bee day camp offers an opportunity to sample art, sports, cooking, science, and swimming. If your camper is interested in the arts, we have Fine Arts, Performing Arts and Sewing camps. Campers interested in science, math and writing, may choose from STEM or Young Authors. We also have a variety of Sports camps: basketball, volleyball, tennis, football, cheerleading, lacrosse, track, and more. Registration opens January 28, 2019.

BUSY BEE DAY CAMP

Traditional day camp for grades Kindergarten through Third grade. Campers have a full day of activities. Each morning they will have two activities at the camp site, such as sports, arts and crafts, science experiments, engineering, and karate. The schedule rotates each day. Camp does not provide snack or lunch. Parents may purchase lunch for campers Monday - Thursday. Friday is pizza day and included with the tuition. Each afternoon the campers attend swim lessons (Monday - Thursday) and free swim (Friday) at the Glen Rock Pool. Friday morning campers take a field trip off site to go bowling. Each week has a theme and campers will have a blast with all of the additional activities that are planned in between all of the above. Our long running camp is the perfect fit for a well rounded summer experience. Campers may attend before and after care for an additional fee.

ART CAMP

Art Camp is a new addition to Glen Rock camps. This half day camp also includes time for campers to eat lunch with their friends. Snack and lunch are not provided. Campers will have two blocks of art each day, where they will discover, enhance and showcase their abilities using mixed media, such as clay, drawing, painting and crafting. Each two week session will end with an Art reception where parents and caregivers can attend. Pizza will be provided for the artists and their guests. The art instructor has experience teaching classes at the community school and working on various art related projects in the community and in entertainment.

CHESS CAMP

GLEN ROCK COOKING CAMP

Attention all Chefs! This year's theme is Cooking Around the World. Our cooking camp is bursting with flavor and our kitchen is full of action!  This half day session introduces campers to international cuisine. Each day, campers focus on exploring cultures and food from around the world… showcasing interesting cultural tidbits about the country.  In addition, we will read a folktale, play an international game, observe a cooking demonstration, create recipe illustrations, and learn to think critically about the foods we just cooked.

DRAMA/MUSICAL THEATER CAMP

Musical Theater & Drama Camp presented by the talented and Bergen County favorite, Stage Right. Sing, dance and act at this camp perfect for enhancing performing art talents or growing your campers craft. The one week session will end with an "informance," to showcase the week's work. MIDDLE SCHOOL SKILLS

Middle School Success:  The transition from elementary to middle school can be a daunting one. Students need to adjust to a new building, multiple teachers and the “dreaded” cafeteria and lockers. During their fifth grade year, students will experience a variety of activities designed to ease the transition from elementary to middle school. As September approaches, some students may feel the need for a refresher in a small group setting. This course offers a review of topics including locker organization, binder management, helpful homework tips and time management - reinforcing great strategies that will last a lifetime and intended for students entering Grade 6. The instructor is Anthony Cece, GRMS teacher since 2001 with significant experience in learning strategies and study skills.

Study Skills Essentials: Successful middle school students require a strong foundation in executive functioning skills.  Study Skills Essentials provides students with the necessary tools that are imperative for success in middle school and beyond. Topics include organizational skills, time management, test taking skills, following directions and long-term planning.  In addition to acquiring these essential skills, students will learn valuable tips to maintain them throughout their educational careers. The instructor is Anthony Cece, a GRMS teacher since 2001 with significant experience in learning strategies and study skills.

Summer is a great time to improve at your instrument or learn how to play something new. Private music lessons offer comprehensive one-on-one music instruction in beginner to intermediate woodwinds, brass, strings, piano, percussion and guitar.

PLAY CAMP

Play Camp offers a unique summer experience for our youngest campers ages 3 and 4. A balance of indoor and outdoor activities includes arts and crafts, games, music and water play. Fundamentals of motor skills and perceptual development are included in this valuable play experience with children of similar ages. Play Camp provides summer fun and a terrific introduction to both summer camp and preschool experiences. Play Camp leadership is certificated in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, assisted by experienced counselors. Children must be toilet trained and bottles and pacifiers are not permitted at camp.

SEWING CAMP

This new addition to Glen Rock this summer, will have campers learning to sew and for those who know how to sew, they will be expanding their craft. Vivian Burns teaches classes in Glen Rock and surrounding communities. Campers will learn how to use a real sewing machine and create fabulous and fun projects starting with patch pillows, tote bags, aprons and over the course of just one week develop skills to create pajama shorts, simple dresses and tops. This is a full day camp which will give campers the confidence to sew on a real sewing machine as well as understand and perform basic construction techniques. Machines and fabric are provided.

Glen Rock Basketball Academy: Includes warm up/workout, offense and defense skills stations, team practice, 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 games. The camp is run under the direction of the GRHS basketball coaching staff. Bring lunch or order pizza from the camp canteen.

Glen Rock Little League Baseball Camp: Baseball Coach Billy Crispino and coaches bring their own experiences and love of baseball to the young players developing their baseball skills. Camp includes position specific drills, base-running, pitching lessons, batting practice and batting video analysis. Games and competitions will also be included such as homerun derby, wiffle ball competitions and much more! All campers should come prepared with cleats, mitts, lunch, water bottle and sunscreen.

Glen Rock Football Camp: The camp is run under the direction of GRHS head football coach Jim Kurz, who is also assisted by other high school football coaches and current GRHS football players. 
The camp is designed for both experienced and inexperienced players and it will teach each player the fundamentals and techniques of the game. Campers will receive on-field instruction and practice specific skills and drills that will help them succeed at their positions. This program is “non-contact” without pads.

Golf Camp: Tee it up with TGA for an action-packed week of golf camp! Our camp maximizes the fun by including instruction, games, and exciting activities to help players of all experience levels develop their skills and passion for the sport in a safe and supportive environment. Campers should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Rock Lacrosse Camp: Varsity lacrosse head coach Mike Escalante and his staff of high school coaches and players offer expert instruction and passion for the game of lacrosse. Camp includes position specific drills, faceoff specialist drills, 1v1 play, group play and team play. The goals of the camp are to enhance each player’s individual skill, each player’s lacrosse I.Q, and introduce team concepts. Games and competitions will also be included throughout the camp! All campers should come prepared with full lacrosse equipment, water and lunch.

Girl's Summer Lacrosse: The Glen Rock Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Clinics will be run by head coach Kyle McCourt, along with other Glen Rock High School players and coaches affiliated with the program. For four days, players will learn and practice the fundamentals/tactics of girls’ lacrosse.  Numerous skills and strategies of the sport will be learned based on the appropriate age groups, as well as fun activities for enjoyment/team building.  The clinics will be available for girls going into grades 1-4 and grades 5-8.  Players should come equipped with their own girls’ lacrosse stick, goggles, mouthpiece and water/sports drink.

Soccer Camp: TSF Soccer Camp will bring fundamental mastery techniques, dribbling, 1 v 1 tricks and turns, passing and control, shooting and finishing elements to the camp curriculum. The Sports Factory Coaches focus on each individual player's development. We have designed a fun-filled, game-based, exploratory camp which allows each camper maximum touches of the soccer ball and where they will learn to develop their fundamental skills and co-coordination. Soccer camp is offered for a half day or full day. Half day campers should bring a snack, water bottle, sunscreen and wear sneakers. Full day campers should bring lunch, water bottle, sunscreen and wear sneakers. Full day campers will have lots of opportunity for scrimmage and fun games as well.

Rock Softball Camp: C
oach Kelly Dowell along with GRHS softball coaches and varsity softball players, brings many years of teaching skill development and fundamentals. The camp includes Video Analysis, the ultimate technique in performance feedback for hitting and fielding. Campers should come prepared to play hard, learn a lot and have fun! Equipment needed includes: sneakers or cleats, mitt, batting gloves and bat (optional), batting helmet, lunch, water bottle and sunblock.

Rock Sports Camp: Under the direction of Jim Kurz, head football coach for Glen Rock High School and veteran camp director, Rock Sports Camp introduces young players to a variety of sports including football, soccer, basketball, hockey, volleyball and lacrosse. Games include dodgeball, kickball, Steal-the-Bacon, Soldiers and Medics, Dungeon, and more. Each week is not a duplicate of the other weeks. The staff is made up of primarily experienced physical education teachers, coaches and current and former Glen Rock star athletes. The camp provides a balance of cooperative activities and individual skill development. Campers enjoy a caring, supportive and fun environment where each child receives recognition for his/her contributions.

Rock Tennis Clinic: Join Varsity Tennis coach Bonnie Zimmermann and some talented high school players to learn and practice your tennis skills.  All levels are welcome to practice strokes and play games that will be fun and challenging.  Campers should wear sneakers and comfortable clothing and bring a refillable water bottle and snacks. Tennis is a fun lifetime sports so let’s get started.

Rock Track and Field Camp: The camp is directed by head track coaches JP McCarten and Stacie Gallo. This program incorporates age appropriate activities including warm ups/ cool downs, yoga and stretching, training for races, relay events, and field events including throwing, jumping and hurdling led by high school coaches and athletes that will use their experience and knowledge to educate campers. Campers must bring sneakers, water, sunblock, and a snack.

Volleyball Camp: Join former GRHS Volleyball coach Bonnie Zimmermann for some volleyball fun. This camp is great for anyone who wants to learn and play volleyball in a fun, positive atmosphere.  Skills will be developed in passing, setting, serving and hitting and will be used in drills and small-sided games.  All campers should wear comfortable clothing and court sneakers and bring a refillable water bottled along with volleyball knee pads if desired.

Wrestling Camp: The first ever Rock Wrestling Camp will be held this summer. The technique camp will cover all four positions: Monday – Neutral – Offense, Tuesday – Neutral – Defense, Wednesday – Bottom position, Thursday – Top Position. The camp will be run by Glen Rock High School Wrestling Head Coach Corey Fitzpatrick and Assistant Coach Jose Vega.

STEM CAMP

Our campers are taken to the next level through the infusion of technology and engineering to make it a true STEM experience! Located in the state-of-the-art learning environment of the GRHS STEM Wing, certified teachers will lead the campers through an enrichment program via “real-world” problem solving, traditional and non-traditional activities, journal writing, related literature, hands-on investigations, coding, experiments and our makerspaces. Each session includes a field trip to the Glen Rock Arboretum for all campers. The Camp Director is Heather McDermott.

The camp is open to Grades 1 - 6. Students should bring lunch to camp each day. Curriculum is grade specific, so returning campers will have a brand new experience! This year campers may attend a half day or full day session of STEM, and the camp runs five days a week for two weeks. Scientists in Grades 3 to 6 will embark on a full day field trip where they will be able to apply their camp experiences in an interactive exploration.

Two sessions of STEM are in the month of July. Campers may also attend before and/or after care on these weeks. *STEM Extension option is only open to campers attending STEM Half Day and Art Camp.

Video Game Making Camp: GameMakers: Arcade Creators! Brought to GRCS by Little Ivy Academy, your child can create and code their own fruit-chomping, alien-blasting, lane-jumping video game fun. Throughout the week, your camper - from beginner to advanced - can use their imagination and the age-appropriate Scratch programming language to create worlds and invent characters as they build & code their very own suite of arcade style video games.

App Making Camp: AppMakers: App Tycoons! Brought to GRCS by Little Ivy Academy. Whether it is sharing funny photos with friends, or just passing time with a game, it all gets done on a smartphone app. Now your camper - from beginner to advanced - can ride this wave and become an app tycoon. Throughout the week, they will be using MIT's cutting edge App Inventor 2 to design and code their own unique take on some of their favorite smartphone apps.

YOUNG AUTHORS CAMP

Reading Camp: The Reader’s Clubhouse provides young readers with the opportunity to become totally immersed in several reading selections over the two-week period of camp. The selections are chosen for appropriateness to grade level, and also for the opportunities they present for exciting and engaging individual and small group activities.  Based on the students’ talents and interests, clubhouse members will learn the elements of literature through discussion, creative writing exercises, stimulating art projects and even an opportunity to “eat their words” through fun and unique edible projects! Students at all reading levels will enjoy this opportunity to share their love of reading and writing with their peers. A materials fee of $20 will be payable to the instructor at the first class. Led by Glen Rock language arts teacher Lisa Limongelli, MS in Education; with over 22 years of teaching experience.

Writing Camp: Keep writing skills sharp this summer while working alongside other young authors. Whether you’re passionate about writing, or simply want to improve your skills before September comes, you’ll compose, revise and publish your own work while exploring various techniques and strategies to create narrative writing pieces. Led by Carolyn Helmig, certified in Elementary Education and Middle School Language Arts Literacy.
